Happy Healthy Cat Month

September is Happy Healthy Cat Month! While our feline pals definitely deserve to be happy and healthy all year, this is a good time to talk about some of Fluffy’s specific needs. Read on as a local Diamond Bar, CA vet offers tips on keeping your furry buddy healthy and purring.

Cats are fairly easy to care for. Providing Fluffy with good food, fresh water, and a clean litterbox will cover her most basic needs. Proper veterinary care is also very important. Fluffy should be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and kept current on her exams, parasite control products, and vaccinations. Ask your vet for specific advice on your pet’s diet and care needs.

Kitty Luxuries

It isn’t hard to turn your home into a kitty luxury palace. Set out lots of comfy beds for your drowsy pet to relax in. You’ll also need to provide Fluffy with some things to do when she isn’t sleeping. Make sure your cat has lots of toys to bat around, and take time to play with her regularly. Classic playthings, like catnip mice, are fine, but your feline buddy may also enjoy fun modern toys, like robotic mice, catnip bubbles, or automated laser pointers. Offer your furry pal a good window seat, so she can spy on birds and squirrels. Cat furniture is also very beneficial. Kitties really enjoy having some things that were made just to suit their needs! Cat towers are great, but you can also offer your kitty pet tents or towers, or pet tunnels.

Never underestimate your furball’s ability to get into trouble. One of the best ways to keep Fluffy safe is to simply keep her indoors. As soon as your cat sets those cute little paws outdoors, she is vulnerable to some very serious threats, such as cars, weather, predators, and other animals. We also recommend doing some kittyproofing. Put anything that could be dangerous out of paws’ reach. This includes toxic plants; wires and cords; chemicals; medication; plastic bags and wrappers; and small or sharp objects.

Cats are happiest when they feel both loved and safe. Keep Fluffy’s motor going by paying lots of attention to her. Pet her, talk to her, and let her snuggle up on your lap if she wants to.
